Rob's Biography
1st Flight - Coming home from Hospital Preparing to give rides to JAARS visitors

My introduction to missions and to aviation was when I was 3 days old. The passengers on the flight were my mom and I and the pilot was my dad. The purpose of the flight was to bring my mom and I home from the clinic where I was born in Malaybulay to Nasuli, our home in the Philippines.

My parents are missionaries with Wycliffe, so my brother and I had the privilege of growing up in the Philippines as a missionary kid. I count those years as an enormous blessing.  Not only was my time there a great childhood experience, but it also expanded my view of the world and planted in me the desire to reach out to others with the gospel.

In 1988, our family returned to the US so my parents could be involved in training new missionaries. I completed high school in North Carolina and then attended 2 years at Bryan College. After 2 years there, God confirmed His call to missions and brought me back to North Carolina where I worked for three years before completing my training at Moody Aviation, Moody Bible Institute’s mission aviation training program.

After graduating from Moody Aviation in May 2001, I worked at Moody Aviation teaching other who are preparing to serve the Lord as missionaries through aviation.  During my time at Moody Aviation, God confirmed His call on my life to Wycliffe and my desire to be involved in Bible translation. I finished working at Moody Aviation in June of 2003 and began the application to Wycliffe.  During this time I also worked part-time as a flight instructor with a student at Moody Aviation and flew commercially with a charter company. I am very thankful for the opportunities I had while I continued my transition to Wycliffe.

I was accepted as a member with Wycliffe in the fall of 2003. Over the next several years I completed several training courses at JAARS, Wycliffe’s technical training center, for service overseas as a pilot/mechanic.  During that time I accepted an invitation to join the team in Cameroon, West Africa. I completed raising a team of prayer and financial partners to enable me to be able to serve in Cameroon in 2005 and left for Switzerland to study French. August of 2006 I arrived in Cameroon for the first time. I first participated in the Africa Orienation Course to help me learn and adapt to life and culture here. Since January I have been working as a pilot & mechanic here in Cameroon.

It has been so exciting for me to see the way the Lord has been working in my life to deepen my relationship with Him and to involve me in His kingdom. It is truly a privilege to be here.
